Recently I've decided to sow own Titanopsis calcarea seeds. The kids are a couple of weeks old now and already show new leaves. I really want to try and grow more Mesembs other than Lithops.
Hello! I am about to sow some titanopsis seedlings myself. I have successfully started lithops from seed in the past, but do feel like my success was more luck than anything else. I'm going to model the titanopsis bedding after the lithops bedding, but am not certain that's the right thing to do. I have coarse sand, crushed granite, succulent soil, and pumice. I was going to use 1:1 mix of all of those.
I do see that your substrate is very fine. I will be sure to not put any large chunks up by the seeds - I'm thinking I'll save the larger bits of pumice for the bottom of the tray. Do you have any other suggestions?
What you describe sounds sensible to me. If you were successful with lithops seedlings before titanopsis are much much easier from seed. Really, you don't have to worry. The seedlings get "meaty" and fat very fast (see my photo) and you can let the soil dry out early on. Just orient yourself on their looks and you'll be fine.
